The University of Findlay will host a pickleball tournament, the Oil Can Classic, on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21, and the public is invited to participate.
“We are ready to serve up some fun for the entire community,” said Lee Ann Ireland, director of UF’s Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents, and Friends. “We invite all UF alumni, friends, area residents, and everyone who loves pickleball to join us for some friendly competition – no matter what your skill level.”
The open doubles tournament, with round robin and bracket play, will take place at the new UF pickleball courts, 201 College Street, in front of the College of Business/Center for Student Life building.
The pickleball courts opened this spring through a generous gift from Eric and Julie Anderson of AR Marketing in Findlay. An adjacent pavilion with shaded seating also was constructed through a grant from the Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation.
Teams consist of two players, and brackets will be determined based on skill level with beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions.
The cost is $50 per team. The tournament is open to participants age 18 and older. Each player will receive a swag bag as a thank you for participating, which includes a T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places.
Players must register as a team and registration must be completed by June 6 at www.findlay.edu/pickleball.
A full schedule and game details are also available on the website. The Oil Can Classic is sponsored by AR Marketing and Visit Findlay.
