University of Findlay’s Julie McIntosh, Ed.D., dean of the College of Education, was recently appointed as the Ohio Association of Private Colleges for Teacher Education (OAPCTE) representative to the Ohio State Board of Education Educator Standards Board (ESB). The board promotes educator quality, professionalism, and public accountability.
According to the State Board of Education, the ESB has established several key measures to support educators throughout their careers. These include developing state standards for teachers, principals, superintendents, school treasurers, and school counselors; establishing standards for professional development; creating a career lattice and the definition of a Master Teacher; and drafting the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators (LCPCDE). The ESB also monitors the implementation of these standards and recommends policies aimed at closing achievement gaps among student groups.
“I am excited to represent the Ohio Association of Private Colleges for Teacher Education on the Educator Standards Board,” said McIntosh. “Educator preparation programs across Ohio have worked tirelessly with legislators to strengthen the educator pipeline and to ensure quality preparation for teachers, principals, superintendents, school treasurers, and school counselors. This position will expand that reach to the standards for educators established by the State Board of Education.”
Additionally, McIntosh has previously served as the President of OAPCTE and the Ohio Association of Colleges for Teacher Education President (OACTE). OACTE represents all educator preparation programs in Ohio.
